| Exeter airport first opened just 5 miles from Exeter city centre in May 1937 and the first commercial flight took off from the airport that same year. The airport has steadily grown since then, starting off with regular services to the Channel Islands. These days a variety of airlines fly to over 40 destinations worldwide including Europe, Africa, Canada and the Caribbean.
The number of passengers passing through the airport is increasing steadily. Plans for a new passenger terminal have been put forward in order to cope with this growth.
