| This Airport is more commonly known these days as Nottingham East Midlands, having been previously referred to as simply East Midlands Airport.
Nottingham East Midlands is one of the UK's fastest growing airports and consists of a single terminal. It services more than 60 different destinations. It was opened in 1965 on the site of a Royal Airforce base and primarily used for transporting freight.
The airport was bought by the National Express group and then later sold on to the Manchester Airport Group in March 2001 for 241 million pounds.
The airport has continued to prosper since then with passenger figures increasing yearly. East Midlands airport is the UK's largest pure cargo airport with DHL, TNT and UPS having bases there as well as being a primary hub for Royal Mail. |
